The Bicknell Cycle Route is a tourist and sports route that loops from the Mediterranean coast through the hinterland of the Maritime and Ligurian Alps, straddling Italy and France.
Inspired by the explorations of Clarence Bicknell, a late-19th-century English botanist who chose Bordighera as his home, this itinerary is more than a classic route; it's a true journey through space and time, through the places visited and described in the extensive research of this eclectic scientist.
Starting from Bordighera, via a train ride along the Ventimiglia, Breil-sur-Roya, and Tende route, the route takes cyclists to the heights of the Roya Valley and then continues towards the surroundings of Casterino and the Valley of Wonders. The journey then continues towards the villages of La Brigue, Triora, Molini di Triora, and Bajardo, reaching the heights of Sanremo, from where it finally returns to Bordighera via the Montenero trail network.
