Villa Regina Margherita
Margherita of Savoy, the first queen of Italy, commissioned the construction of this house between 1914 and 1916 to the architect Luigi Broggi from Milan. Since June 2011, this prestigious building has been transformed in a significant cultural attraction after two years of accurate renovation and the engagement of Famiglia Terruzzi - Villa Regina Foundation. The work has been possible thanks to a project enhancing the natural and cultural resources of Liguria Region (Asse 4 del POR FESR 2007-2013). Thanks to this important intervention, the exposition of the stunning and countless artistic pieces of Terruzzi family collection will be possible in the refurbished rooms and the building will be used for different cultural aims including training, expositions, museum.
Villa Regina Margherita is located along via Romana, approx. at mid-way. It hosts a selected range of pieces from Terruzzi collection, representing one of most extended and richest collections in Europe which was created by the magnate Guido Angelo from Milan. The exposition includes more than 1,000 pieces. The rooms are very large: prestigious furnitures are hosted here amongst stucco decoration from the Lombard period of "neo-barocchetto".
The collection also includes precious paintings with golden background from 1300 and 1400 signed by important authors from Tuscany and Veneto. Paintings from 1600 and 1700 in Italy, in particular from the Ligurian, Emilian and Neapolitan painting schools and also pieces from French, Dutch and Flemish artists. The Ligurian art is rappresented by paintings of Gioacchino Assereto, Bernardo Strozzi and by a stunning collection painted by Alessandro Magnasco.
Still life and landscape paintings from Italian and foreign artists from 1500 and 1800 enrich the collection. The prestigious furniture includes Chinese porcelains, bronze and silver accessorizes, ceramics and includes the famous "Servizio Minghetti" created in 1888 for the Duke of Montpensier son of Luigi Filippo d'Orléans.
